An EKG mindset is desperately needed to create positive change at work, in our community, and in our world. But what do those initials stand for?
EKG stands for Empathy, Kindness, and Gratitude. It’s a series of ideas and beliefs that open communications, establish positive connections, and help people reach their full potential. We believe it’s essential to be intentional about improving and solidifying these traits.
EKG may be the most important skill you can possess when interacting with others. It’s essential when working as a team. As Margaret Mead once said,
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has!”
So, instead of dissing people for their beliefs or trying to prove them wrong, the EKG mindset invites them to work alongside you to create a better future for all.
Here are seven ways practicing EKG can impact your everyday life, career, community, and organizations whose causes you support:
- EKG Builds Trust. Trust is the foundation of building relationships at all levels. Trusting and caring relationships don’t happen overnight. They need time to nurture and for people to build confidence with each other.
- EKG Improves Connection. Seeing things through the eyes and experiences of those you connect with matters. People begin to have faith in you, each other, and the purpose of what you’re doing together.
- EKG Strengthens Relationships. The more open, genuine, and calm your people are, the greater the likelihood of building positive connections. By becoming a master listener, you and your team gain a deeper understanding before acting.
- EKG Provides Lasting Well-Being. Well-being depends on the degree to which people feel valued and connected. By assuming the best in everyone, you can better understand how others feel and think. Paying attention to doing the little things makes a difference.
- EKG Strengthens Hope, Positive Emotions, and Friendships. Likeability and well-being depend on the caring and trusting relationships we develop today. Listen with your heart, not just your head.
- EKG Helps People Recognize All the Things to be Grateful for and the Power of Thankfulness. Very few things in life are more desired than appreciation. Research confirms that a lack of appreciation is why people are unhappy at work and quit their jobs. Celebrate often.
- EKG Enhances Your Ability to Collaborate and to Work With and Through Others. Organizations are driven by people and their commitment to contribute to the common good for their customers, employees, and stakeholders. Being kind matters.
It’s time to embrace the uplifting power of Empathy, Kindness, and Gratitude.
You CAN change the world. The more you give EKG and serve others, the more you get in return. Live it. Embrace it. Act Now.
