After announcing my 75th birthday last week, I thought I’d share what I’ve learned that’s contributed to my professional success and my personal happiness.
#1: Life is One Big Adventure
Adventures are filled with learning, trying, testing, and experimenting. They’re about looking at the world differently. They serve as springboards to what’s next.
Yes, there will be ups and downs. You’ll experience all sorts of emotions. Things will feel crazy at times.
Often, while you’re in the midst of an adventure, you have no idea what the outcome will be. You only know that it’s challenging you.
Personally, I’m grateful for all those challenges. Without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
They stretched me, grew me, invigorated me, and ultimately led me to a life far better than I could ever have imagined.
When you reframe your challenges into an adventure, you’ll feel a lot better.
#2: Curiosity is a Big Key to Success
Immersing yourself in new areas expands your concept of what’s possible for you. Yes, YOU!
Perhaps you delve into books and websites to learn more. Maybe you’re querying Claude for some direction.
There’s so much you can learn by simply asking questions. Talk to people who are more experienced than you. They can significantly shorten your learning curve. You’ll be able to identify what works, what doesn’t and why—faster!
Plus, you can learn important life lessons from your friends, family, partners, and colleagues too. Don’t worry about prying. Just be curious and interested.
#3: Get Up and Move
Sitting at your desk, pounding away on your computer, or doomscrolling with your cellphone is the perfect set-up for mediocrity.
If you want a fresh perspective or some novel ideas, it’s imperative to get your blood flowing again. Your brain is crying for it.
It’s frozen. Fresh solutions are stuck inside. And things won’t get any better without your help.
Go for a short walk, climb up-and-down the stairs, or do fifteen wall push-ups. Even vacuuming your floor, raking leaves, or washing dishes makes a difference.
You’ll be glad that you made the effort!
P.S. I’m heading to a Safari Adventure in South Africa shortly. I’ll be back soon.
